Prince’s whirlwind visit to Austria

Relations between the two states have been ensured

In a lightening one-day visit, Prince Albert II travelled to Austria this week to meet politicians and tackle issues such as tax and a Mediterranean union. This visit confirmed a relationship between the two states.

The official visit of the Prince to Vienna began with a meeting with Alfred Gusenbauer, the Federal Chancellor. This meeting enabled the Monegasque sovereign to discuss current European issues, as well as the economic situations of the Principality and of Austria, which will benefit from a strong development in the service and tourism sectors.

Next on Prince Albert’s agenda was a meeting with Heinz Fischer, the Federal President. The two leaders reflected on the relationships between their states and proceeded to discuss a number of issues of current interest to them. This exchange is believed to have demonstrated a perfect convergence of viewpoints between both countries, notably where Monaco’s support for a Mediterranean union is concerned.

The Prince also spent time with Franck Biancheri, the Government Minister for External Relations and International Economic and Financial Affairs, and Hans Winkler, the Secretary of State. They addressed the necessity for small states to understand their uniqueness in relation to the European construction.

The day was concluded by a meeting of the Sovereign and his delegation’s work with Wilhelm Molterer, Vice Chancellor and Minister of Finance. This meeting confirmed the similar approaches of the Principality and Austria on economic and financial issues, and particularly where tax is concerned.
